Sophia Marie Pinto, of Wallingford, who is remembered for her big smile, bigger heart, and love of the beach, passed away following complications of an asthma attack on Feb. 28, her obituary said.
Memorials have poured in on social media, with most touching on her ability to bring people together. Her family wrote she spent a lifetime honing that skill.
She lived every moment to its fullest. She brought joy to everyone she met, forging friendships wherever she went with her vibrant energy, boundless creativity, and infectious laugh. At 18, Sophia chose to embrace the Catholic faith, a decision that inspired those around her with its maturity and grace. Her faith brought her comfort and strength, reminding us all of the power of belief and personal growth. As a member of Holy Trinity in Wallingford, she nurtured a deep spiritual connection that uplifted everyone who knew her. Sophia cherished the beach, nature, and warm weather. She was immensely proud of her Puerto Rican heritage and felt most at home on the island.
Her family will receive family and friends on Monday, March 10, at Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext. from 9 am until 10:30 am. Her funeral funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
A GoFundMe was created to help cover the cost of the funeral. So far, the campaign has raised more than $10,000.
"Sophia was incredibly bright, courageous, and bold and showed her inner strength in myriad ways," the fundraiser said. "She was a deeply spiritual young woman, who believed in the power and mercy of God and the family takes comfort in knowing she is now resting safely in His eternal care."
